Then a short distance on the B13 and we turn onto the A6. The southern route makes more sense to us, since the A3 via Frankfurt is constantly overloaded.

From the car park at the Perlenbachtalsperre we hike to the dam wall and on to the Eifel town of Monschau.
Monschau was mentioned for the first time in 1198 and is located in the Rur valley.
In the 13th century, Monschau Castle was built by the dukes of Limburg and further expanded in the 14th century.
Cloth manufacture in Monschau was established in the 16th century by the cloth maker Arnold Schmitz on the Rur. The wool needed for this had to be brought in from abroad because of the better quality.
The Protestant pastor's son Johann Heinrich Scheibler brought textile processing to its peak in the 18th century on the Rur.
As a sign of the heyday, the magnificent red house built by Scheibler around 1760 can still be seen today.

Bruges is a beautiful city. The beautifully restored houses are very impressive.
Since the construction of the outer city wall at the end of the 13th century, there have been mills on the fortifications of the city of Bruges. They had an important economic function well into the 19th century. Today there are still four mills on the Kruisvest. The Sint-Janshuismolen (anno 1770), the only mill that can still be visited, has retained its original location and still grinds grain.
The canals have been the arteries of the city for centuries, meandering through Bruges and offering a magnificent sight. While walking through, we discovered mysterious gardens and many romantic bridges. The medieval facades are reflected in the water.
The Markt, also known as the Grote Markt, is the market square in Bruges. It is located in the city center and has an area of about 1 ha. On the south side of the square stands the bell tower (Halletoren) from the 12th century.

The Oudegracht is the most famous canal in Utrecht. For centuries it was the city's main thoroughfare. Now there are cozy restaurants and nice shops along the canal.

From the Middle Ages to the 19th century, the fish bank at the Gouwe site was reserved for the Gouwernaars. There were traders from outside Gouda on the Hoge Gouwe, and this bank was also called the "foreign fish market".

The Singel, Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht run in a semicircle around the city centre, also known as the "Grachten Belt" .
However, we felt that Amsterdam was over-emphasized compared to other cities in Holland and Belgium. The cities we have visited can all keep up with that.

Vom Parkplatz an der Perlenbachtalsperre wandern wir zur Staumauer und weiter ins Eifelstädtchen Monschau.
1198 wurde Monschau zum ersten Mal erwähnt und liegt im Rurtal.
Im 13. Jahrhunderts wurde die Monschauer Burg von den Herzögen aus Limburg errichtet und im 14. Jahrhundert weiter ausgebaut.
Die Monschauer Tuchherstellung wurde im 16. Jahrhundert von dem Tuchmacher Arnold Schmitz an der Rur angesiedelt. Die dafür benötigten Wolle, musste wegen der besseren Qualität von auswärts herbeigeschaft werden.
Der protestantische Pfarrersohn Johann Heinrich Scheibler brachte die Textilbearbeitung im 18. Jahrhundert an der Rur auf den Höhepunkt.
Als Zeichen der Blütezeit ist das von Scheibler um
1760 erbaute prachtvolle rote Haus noch Heute zu sehen.

Brügge ist eine wunderschöne Stadt. Die sehr schön restaurierten Häuser beeidrucken sehr.
Seit
der Errichtung der äußeren Stadtmauer Ende des 13. Jahrhunderts befindten sich Mühlen auf den Festungen der Brügger Stadt. Sie hatten bis weit
ins 19. Jahrhundert eine wichtige wirtschaftliche Funktion. Heute gibt
es noch vier Mühlen auf der Kruisvest. Die Sint-Janshuismolen (anno
1770), die einzige Mühle, die noch besichtigt werden kann, behielt ihren
ursprünglichen Standort und mahlt noch Getreide.
Die
Grachten sind seit Jahrhunderten die Adern der Stadt, sie schlängeln
sich durch Brügge und bieten einen grandiosen Anblick. Beim durchwandern entdeckten wir geheimnissvolle Gärten und viele romantische Brücken. Die mittelalterliche
Fassaden spiegeln sich im Wasser.
Der Markt, auch „Grote Markt“ genannt, ist der Marktplatz in Brügge. Er liegt im Stadtzentrum und hat eine Größe von ca. 1 ha. Auf der Südseite des Platzes steht der Glockenturm (Halletoren) aus dem 12. Jahrhundert.
Der Turm von Brügge, ist 83 Meter hoch
und Weltkulturerbe. Wer die 366 Stufen ersteigt hat einem tollrn Ausblick über Brügge. Im Turm ist auch die Schatzkammer. Das
Glockenspiel mit 47 Glocken steuert über eine Tastatur, der Glockenspieler.

Von der Hafenstadt Terneuzen kam einst der fliegenden Holländer an Breskens vorbei. Terneuzen ist der Heimathafen von Willem van der Decken, dem Kapitän des
Geisterschiffs „Der fliegende Holländer“. Er fuhr wider besseres Wissen
am Ostermontag auf See. Während der Fahrt geriet das Schiff in ein
Unwetter und kehrte nie wieder zurück.

Als „Ter Nose“ wird die Stadt erstmals Anfang des 14ten Jahrhunderts erwähnt. Terneuzen bekam 1584 die Stadtrechte von Prinz Wilhelm von Oranien.
Sie ist der Heimathafen von Willem van der Decken, dem Kapitän des Geisterschiffs „Der fliegende Holländer“. Er fuhr wider besseres Wissen am Ostermontag auf See. Während der Fahrt geriet das Schiff in ein Unwetter und kehrte nie wieder zurück.
Der Leuchtturm - Nieuwe Sluis von Breskens
besteht komplett aus Gusseisen. Das bedeutet, dass die Erhaltung Aufwendig und Teuer ist.

Eine Fahrradtour von Ostflandern nach Westflandern ist zweifellos der ideale Weg, um den Damse Vaart zu entdecken und diese von stattlichen Pappelreihen umgebene Polderlandschaft zu genießen.
Wir fahren von Maldegem in Ostflandern entlang des Schipdonkkanaal und dem paralell verlaufenden Leopoldkanaal bis zum Damse Vaart nach Damme.
Damme ist eine Stadt die in Westflandern liegt. Sie zieht mit dem gemütlichen Ortskern viele Touristen an.
Als das Meeresgebiet vor Brügge immer mehr versandete verlor die Stadt ihren direkten Zugang zur Nordsee. Eine große Sturmflut legte einen neuen Meeresarm entlang des Zwin frei. Brügge baute einen Kanal dorthin und schützte das Hinterland mit einem Damm. Am "dwarsdam" wurde die Ansiedlung Damme gegründet.

Die belgische Hafenstadt Oostende ist ein beliebtes Seebad in der Provinz Westflandern mit einem sieben Kilometer langen Nordseestrand und einer schönen Uferpromenade.
Oostende hat zwei Museumsschiffe, das Zeilschip Mercator, ein fast 80 Meter langer Dreimaster, liegt vor dem Rathaus. Es handelt sich um eines der wichtigsten Wahrzeichen von Ostende und zugleich um ein schwimmendes Museum.
Die Sint-Petrus-en-Pauluskerk, die Kirche St. Peter und
St. Paul ist die Hauptkirche von Ostende und wurde im neugotischen
Stil gebaut.
Fische, Krabben und Meeresfrüchte gibt es in Oostende. Der Vistrap ist ein großer Fischmarkt in der Stadt. In der Nähe vom Visserskai ist der Markt unter freiem Himmel. Er hat täglich geöffnet. Beste Zeit ist der frühen Morgen.
De Haan: Mit den roten
Dächern, den Balkonen, den Toren und Fachwerkgiebeln erkennt man den Badeort. Die Villenviertel ´de Concessie erinnern an die 1900er
Jahre. Die
denkmalgeschützte Straßenbahnhaltestelle gehöhrt zur
Küstentram.

Gent entstand aus keltischen Siedlungen im am Zusammenfluss von Schelde und Leie.
Schon im Mittelalter blühte in Gent der Tuchhandel und so wuchs sie zu einer der größten und bedeutendsten Städte Europas heran.
Auch das von der Stadt erworbene Stapelrecht auf Getreide trugen ansehnlich zur Wohlfahrt der Stadt bei. Danach jedoch verfiel die Stadt zusehends, erst Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts, gelangte Gent zur erneuten Blüte und wurde so zu einer der ersten industrialisierten Städte auf dem europäischen Festland.

Gestört hat mich allerdings, dass es keinerlei deutsche Führungen und Infos gab. Nochmehr allerdings störte der Müll und Schutt der überall auf den Straßen lag und auch vor Restaurants keinen zu einem Besen greifen lies.

Ende des 15ten Jahrhunderts war Leiden die größte Stadt in der Grafschaft Holland. Und das war vor allem der Tuchindustrie zu verdanken. Ab dem 16ten Jahrhundert wurde alles anders. Eine Zeit der Reformen und Verfolgungen. Leiden schloss sich 1572 dem niederländischen Aufstand gegen die spanische Herrschaft an und wurde gleich zweimal von den Spaniern belagert.
Die Spanier wollten die Stadt aushungern lassen. Am 3. Oktober 1574 wurde Leiden erlöst.
Da sich die Leidener so lange widersetzt hatten, schenkte Wilhelm von Oranien der Stadt die erste Universität von Holland.
Die Befreiung war der Beginn einer neuen Blütezeit. 1577 kamen zehntausende Niederländer aus dem Süden nach Leiden: Erfahrene Textilarbeiter, die in De Lakenhal arbeiteten und der Leidener Wollindustrie mit neuen Produkten, Techniken, Kapital und ihrer Arbeitskraft Auftrieb gaben.
Die Bevölkerung wuchs weiter und im 17ten jahrhundert wurde das Stadtgebiet immer wieder vergrößert. So erhielt der Singelring, ein Kanalring aus Verteidigungsanlagen seine Form.
Die Bollenstreek (Zwiebelregion) ist weltberühmt für seine Blumenfelder, die jeden Frühling
blühen.
Aber die Bollenstreek hat auch viele Kilometer Strand und ist reich an schönen Naturschutzgebieten.
Die Bollenstreek verändert sich im Laufe des Jahres stark. Von den farbenfrohen Blumenfeldern im Frühling bis zu den Dahlien-Schaugärten im Sommer.

Die Oudegracht ist der bekannteste Kanal in Utrecht. Für Jahrhunderte war er die Hauptverkehrsader der Stadt. Jetzt befinden sich gemütliche Restaurants und schöne Geschäfte entlang des Kanals.
Der etwa zwei Kilometer lange Kanal ist das Verbindungsstück zwischen dem Kromme Rijn und der Vecht. Das System der Werften und Werftkeller an der Oudegracht und Nieuwegracht in Utrecht ist weltweit einzigartig.

Gouda hatte bereits im 15. Jahrhundert eine Fischbank. Die heutigen Fischbänke wurden 1588 gegründet. 1676 wurden die Ufer wieder aufgebaut und im 18. Jahrhundert das Kommissarshaus für den Aufseher errichtet. Vom Mittelalter bis ins 19. Jahrhundert war die Fischbank an der Lage Gouwe den Gouwernaars vorbehalten. Es gab Händler von außerhalb Goudas auf der Hoge Gouwe, und diese Bank wurde auch "ausländischer Fischmarkt" genannt.

Turfmarkt ist ein Kanal im Stadtzentrum von Gouda. Die Nordwestseite des Turfmarktes
erstreckt sich von der Lage Gouwe im Westen bis zum Kleiweg im Osten.

Gouda
ist ein touristischer Hotspot mit sehr schöner Altstadt. Wir fanden den "Gouda Kaasmarkt" und den Bauernmarkt drumherum, schöner und noch anschaulicher als den von Alkmaar. Vorallem der restliche Markt war ein gewachsener Wochenmarkt, bei dem Angebot und Preise stimmten.

Früher wurde der Ortsname "Die Haghe" oder Gravenhageverwendet da der Ort ein Jagdsitz der Grafen von Holland war.
Den Haag ist heute der Sitz des Königs der Niederlande und der Königlichen Bibliothek. Der Hoge Raad, der höchste Gerichtshof der Niederlande und der Internationale Strafgerichtshofs befinden sich auch in Den Haag.

Der Lapjesmarkt in der Breedstraat ist der größte Stoffmarkt von Holland. Hier gibt es die verschiedensten Stoffe zur Auswahl.
Der Lapjesmarkt ist nicht nur der größte, sondern auch der älteste Stoffmarkt. 1597 gab der Utrechter Gemeinderat den Leinenwebern die Genemigung, zweimal im Jahr einen Tuchmarkt zu abzuhalten. Heute ist der Lapjesmarkt ein Wochenmarkt mit vielen verschiedenen Ständen, die hauptsächlich Stoffe und Zubehör anbieten.
Jeden Samstag verwandelt sich die Stadt zwischen Zakkendragersteeg und Bakkersteeg in ein Blumenmeer. Von einzelnen Blumen und Pflanzen bis hin zu großen Blumensträußen hier gibt es alles. An der schönen Oudegracht bekommt die Blumenpracht noch eine bessere Geltung.
Einen Blumenmarkt gibt es aber nicht nur an der Oudegracht, sondern auch am Janskerkhof.

Die Amsterdamer Altstadt muß man erlaufen. Während die Radfahrer über die klinkergepflasterten Straßen sausen, kommt man an historischen Gebäuden vorbei und geht über die vielen Brücken.
Die malerischen Grachten und ihre Geschichten sind zwar nicht einzigartig, aber schön.
Amsterdam ist weltberühmt für seine Grachten. Wie ein Netz wird sie von ihren Wasserstraßen durchzogen und hat sogar noch mehr Kanäle als Venedig. Die vier Hauptgrachten:
Singel, Herengracht, Keizersgracht und Prinsengracht verlaufen halbkreisförmig um die Innenstadt, man nennt dies auch den"Grachtengürtel".

Stadttor von Hoorn (1578)
Als einziges erhaltenes Stadttor von Hoorn ist das ’Oosterpoort’ ein Stück Geschichte. Das Tor wurde 1578 gebaut und später erweitert. Das Tor befindet sich neben dem Draafsingel.
Die Altstadt mit dem Waaghaus auf dem Marktplatz, oder der alte Hafen sind sehenswert.

Einen Katzensprung von Amsterdam entfernt liegt Haarlem am Fluss Spaarne. Kleine entzückende Gassen und die typischen niederländischen Grachten.
Das Städtchen besitzt einem typisch holländischen Flair mit seinen Windmühlen, Kanälen und der Vielzahl an Brücken. Hier findet man eine menge denkmalgeschützter Gebäude.
In Haarlem selbst herrscht wenig Verkehr, das Stadtzentrum ist überschaubar und niemals überlaufen.
Am Marktplatz befindet sich die dreischiffige St. Bavokerk, oder auch Grote Kerk, genannt. Das Wahrzeichen der Stadt, die Gotische Kirche aus dem 14. Jahrhundert, die dem Heiligen Bavo gewidmet ist.
Ein weiteres sehenswertes Wahrzeichen, ist die berühmte Holländermühle "Molen de Adriaan". Unmittelbar am Ufer des Flusses steht das Bauwerk aus demJahre 1779.

Alkmaar ist eine Stadt im Norden der Provinz Noord-Holland.
Neben dem sehenswerten historischen Zentrum ist die Stadt berühmt für ihren Käsemarkt.
Auf dem Platz vor der Waag wird seit 1622 ein Freiluft-Käsemarkt veranstaltet, bei dem große Käselaibe vom Bauern zum Händler

From the car park at the Perlenbachtalsperre we hike to the dam wall and on to the Eifel town of Monschau.
Monschau was mentioned for the first time in 1198 and is located in the Rur valley.
In the 13th century, Monschau Castle was built by the dukes of Limburg and further expanded in the 14th century.
Cloth manufacture in Monschau was established in the 16th century by the cloth maker Arnold Schmitz on the Rur. The wool needed for this had to be brought in from abroad because of the better quality.
The Protestant pastor's son Johann Heinrich Scheibler brought textile processing to its peak in the 18th century on the Rur.
As a sign of the heyday, the magnificent red house built by Scheibler around 1760 can still be seen today.

Many historical buildings are arranged around the Vrijthof. You can see the Sint Servaaskerk, Sint Janskerk, the Spaans Gouvernement, the Hauptwache and the Generaalshuis.
In the Jekerkwartier you will find a water mill, the Bisschopsmolen.
The mill was owned by Godfried van Bouillon in the 11th century and after his death by the Prince Bishop of Liège.

Bruges is a beautiful city. The beautifully restored houses are very impressive.
Since the construction of the outer city wall at the end of the 13th century, there have been mills on the fortifications of the city of Bruges. They had an important economic function well into the 19th century. Today there are still four mills on the Kruisvest. The Sint-Janshuismolen (anno 1770), the only mill that can still be visited, has retained its original location and still grinds grain.
The canals have been the arteries of the city for centuries, meandering through Bruges and offering a magnificent sight. While walking through, we discovered mysterious gardens and many romantic bridges. The medieval facades are reflected in the water.
The Markt, also known as the Grote Markt, is the market square in Bruges. It is located in the city center and has an area of about 1 ha. On the south side of the square stands the bell tower (Halletoren) from the 12th century.
The Tower of Bruges is 83 meters high and is a World Heritage Site. Those who climb the 366 steps have a great view over Bruges. The treasury is also in the tower. The glockenspiel with 47 bells is controlled by a keyboard, the glockenspiel.

If they couldn't pay the toll, he chopped off their right hand. The city's name is said to have come from this event, the "hand throwing".

The Spaniards wanted to starve the city. On October 3, 1574, Leiden was redeemed.
Because the people of Leiden had resisted for so long, William of Orange presented the city with the first university in Holland.
Liberation marked the beginning of a new heyday. In 1577 tens of thousands of Dutchmen came to Leiden from the south: experienced textile workers who worked in De Lakenhal and gave a boost to the Leiden wool industry with new products, techniques, capital and their labour.

But the Bollenstreek also has many kilometers of beaches and is rich in beautiful nature reserves .
The Bollenstreek changes a lot over the course of the year. From the colorful flower fields in spring to the dahlia display gardens in summer.
