Hiking, cycling, wine and Udo

We visit friends in Neustadt and stroll through the beautiful old town together, marvel at the church, which is divided into a Protestant and a Catholic part and thus has two different towers. Of course we also pay a visit to the Elwetritsch, a bird-like mythical creature that is native to the Palatinate.
In the evening we go to the Novalis in the garden for a delicious meal.
Since it is too far from our friends to the official camper place in Neustadt, we spend the night in the parking lot between the outdoor pool and the stadium, where overnight stays are officially allowed.
We visit friends in Neustadt and stroll through the beautiful old town together, marvel at the church, which is divided into a Protestant and a Catholic part and thus has two different towers. Of course we also pay a visit to the Elwetritsch, a bird-like mythical creature that is native to the Palatinate.
In the evening we go to the Novalis in the garden for a delicious meal.
Since it is too far from our friends to the official camper place in Neustadt, we spend the night in the parking lot between the outdoor pool and the stadium, where overnight stays are officially allowed.
The night was pretty quiet, but in the morning at 8 a.m. we were woken up by a loudspeaker announcement from the stadium next door: "Dear students, I wish you a wonderful good morning, have fun and a fair competition!"..... Aha! Federal Youth Games! During breakfast we watch the kids run, throw, cheer and play ball and are happy that something like this can finally take place again after Corona.
In Edenkoben on the Edel-Brauch winery we find a parking space with a view of the vineyards. Unfortunately, the restaurant is on vacation, but we can buy a few bottles of wine as a parking fee.
We start our bike tour directly from here: Maikammer, Roth, Villa Ludwigshöhe, from there with the chairlift up to the Riethburg. At the top you hike to the Ludwigsturm (4 km), a real Rapunzel tower! At Burg Riethburg there is a "slate sack" in proper style: liver dumplings, bratwurst, sauerkraut. We drive back via Hainfeld and Burrweiler and enjoy the very tasty white wine in front of the mobile home. So beautiful! Let's go on like this!!

Unfortunately, it's too fresh for swimming, so we cycle comfortably to Dörrenbach, the "Sleeping Beauty" of the Palatinate. Cute little place with a beautiful church with a church garden. Then it's off to the Kieffer butcher's shop in Bad Bergzabern, where we buy liverwurst and delicious Saumagen. The bike path from Bad Berzabern back to Lake Silz is beautiful. In the evenings, however, it gets chilly, so we like to go in after a beer after work.

The further way is wonderful to the Quiechquelle and the paddling lake, where we stop for a bit. Then you can walk from Hinterweidental to the impressive Teufelstisch and Teufelsküche. After this exhausting day we really deserved the tarte flambée and the delicious beer in the super beautiful beer garden of the Brauhaus Ehrstein in Hinterweidental and we enjoy it very much. The way home is quite short, it is very relaxed on the planet path back to the campsite.

There are countless very well signposted hiking trails, we choose the Kauertweg. It's a great hike that takes in beautiful rock formations and beautiful viewpoints. At the end there is a hearty snack at the hut.

We drive comfortably north again, we want to spend the night again today at the Edel Brauch winery in Edenkoben. Well, everything, everything full! It's Saturday evening and there's a wine festival in St. Martin, so the other pitches are full too. As we happen to pass a meadow in front of Roth, there are already 3 mobile homes. We stand by it. There's nothing but a view and peace and quiet, but that's enough for us! The meadow is not far from the village and so it is not far to eat in a small courtyard restaurant. When it starts raining, we head inside. The dining room fills up quickly, especially with the other campers and we discover an old music box that everyone puts into operation. We all sing along to the old hits at the top of our lungs, the landlord dances with the waitress, the wine tastes better and better... walking home together inspired...

We'll be there at 11, all full... I ask someone who's just rolling up a power cord if they're leaving. Yes, we would just have to wait for your breakfast. OK no problem. More and more mobile homes are driving onto the site. Since Udo fans stick together, the three of us share our pitch. Now we are planning a trip into our past, a bike ride to Ladenburg, where we lived during our studies. A wonderful cycle path always leads along the Neckar to Ladenburg, where we reminisce and take a coffee break on the historic market square. Back with the small Neckar ferry to the other side of the Neckar and back to the parking space.

The Palatinate Forest with its castles and rocks is impressive and great for hiking, whether short or long. However, quite dark due to logically a lot of forest.
But the more open, sunnier Palatinate with the vineyards and the many nice little wine villages gave us more of a holiday feeling and is great for cycling.
With Udo in our ears, we start our journey home after a leisurely breakfast.
Conclusion: Such a week, for which you don't have to drive that far, has something! A whole different world, great change of scenery!

Show newest firstWir besuchen Freunde in Neustadt und bummeln gemeinsam durch die wunderschöne Altstadt, bestaunen die Kirche, die in einen evangelischen und einen katholischen Teil aufgeteilt ist und somit zwei verschiedene Türme besitzt. Natürlich statten wir auch der Elwetritsch, einem vogelähnlichem Fabelwesen, das in der Pfalz beheimatet ist, einen Besuch ab.
Sehr lecker gehen wir abends im Novalis im Garten essen.
Da es zum offiziellen Wohnmobilstellplatz von Neustadt zu weit von unseren Freunden ist, übernachten wir auf dem Parkplatz zwischen Freibad und Stadion, wo offiziell übernachten erlaubt ist.

Die Nacht war recht ruhig, aber morgens um 8 Uhr werden wir von einer Lautsprechendurchsage vom Stadion nebenan geweckt: "Liebe Schülerinnen und Schüler, ich wünsche uns einen wunderschönen guten Morgen, viel Spaß und einen fairen Wettkampf!"..... Aha! Bundesjugendspiele! Während des Frühstücks schauen wir den Kids beim Rennen, Werfen, Anfeuern und Ballspielen zu und freuen uns, dass so was nach Corona endlich wieder stattfinden kann.
In Edenkoben auf dem Weingut Edel-Brauch finden wir einen Stellplatz mit Blick auf die Weinberge. Leider hat das Restaurant Urlaub, aber ein paar Fläschchen Wein als Stellplatzgebühr können wir kaufen.
Wir starten von hier aus direkt unsere Radtour: Maikammer, Roth, Villa Ludwigshöhe, von dort mit dem Sessellift nach oben zur Riethburg. Oben wird zum Ludwigsturm gewandert (4 km), einem richtigen Rapunzelturm! Auf der Burg Riethburg gibt's stilecht "schiefer Sack": Leberknödel, Bratwurst, Sauerkraut. Zurück fahren wir über Hainfeld und Burrweiler zurück und genießen den sehr leckeren Weißwein vor dem Wohnmobil. So schön! So kanns weitergehen!!

Unser Frühstück in der Sonne ist schlagartig beendet, weil Uwe von einer Wespe in die Lippe gestochen wird, die schnell richtig heftig anschwillt. Gottseidank bekommen wir von der jungen Frau Edel? oder Brauch? den Tipp mit ihrem Hausarzt in Edenkoben, zu dem wir gleich radeln. Mit zwei Cortisontabletten schwillt alles schnell wieder ab.
Wir lassen uns Zeit und gondeln gemütlich bis zum Stellplatz am Silzer Badesee. Das ist einen große Wiese direkt hinterm Deich des Sees und kostet 10 € ohne Strom.
Leider ist es zum Baden zu frisch, und so radeln wir gemütlich nach Dörrenbach, dem "Dornröschen" der Pfalz. Süßer kleiner Ort mit einer schönen Kirche mit Kirchgarten. Dann geht's nach Bad Bergzabern zur Metzgerei Kieffer, wo wir Leberwurst und oberleckeren Saumagen kaufen. Der Radweg von Bad Berzabern zurück zum Silzer See ist wunderschön. Abends wird es aber kühl, so dass wir nach dem Feierabendbierchen gerne reingehen.

Das Wetter ist grau in grau. Wir fahren nach Wissembourg zum Einkaufen und über Lemberg wieder nach Deutschland zurück.
Ein kleiner Abstecher zur Burg Drachenfels muss sein! Von der Pfälzer Wald Hütte laufen wir hoch zur Ruine von Burg Drachenfels. Schön!
Dann geht's zum Biosphärenhaus bei Fischbach, wo wir viel über das Biosphärengebiet Pfälzer Wald erfahren. Mittlerweile nieselt es, aber wir können trotzdem den Baumwipfelpfad machen, der mit einer Rutschpartie endet. Dort gibt es auch einen Stellplatz, der aber 20€ kostet und halt ein Parkplatz im Wald ist. Wir steuern den Neudahner Weiher an. Der vordere Campingplatz ist recht voll und kostet stolze 28€, der hintere 17€. Den nehmen wir. Da das Wetter wieder besser ist, grillen wir heute unseren Saumagen, dazu Bratkartoffeln und einen schönen Weißwein. Saulecker!!

Direkt vom Campingplatz radeln wir auf schönen Radwegen bis zur Burgruine Altdahn, wo wir dann zu Fuß alles erkunden.
Der weitere Weg ist herrlich bis zur Quiechquelle und dem Paddelsee, wo wir erst mal einkehren. Dann geht's zu Fuß von Hinterweidental zum beeindruckenden Teufelstisch und zur Teufelsküche. Nach diesem anstrengenden Tag haben wir den Flammkuchen und das leckere Bier im super schönen Biergarten des Brauhauses Ehrstein in Hinterweidental wirklich verdient und genießen es sehr. Der Heimweg ist recht kurz, es geht sehr entspannt auf dem Planentenweg wieder zurück zum Campingplatz.

Mit dem Wohnmobil fahren wir bis zur Pfälzer Wald Hütte und starten von dort unsere Wanderung durch die Felsenarena im Dahner Felsenland. Es gibt unzählige sehr gut beschilderte Wanderwege, wir entscheiden uns für den Kauertweg. Es ist eine tolle Wanderung, die an wunderschönen Felsformationen und schönen Aussichtspunkten vorbeiführt. Am Ende gibt's ein zünftiges Vesper auf der Hütte.
In Hauenstein legen wir bei der Schuhmeile , lauter Schuhoutlets, eine Pause ein. OK, das hätten wir uns sparen können....
Gemütlich fahren wir wieder gen Norden, wir wollen heute nochmal auf dem Weingut Edel Brauch in Edenkoben übernachten. Tja, alles, alles voll! Es ist Samstag Abend, und in in St. Martin ist ein Weinfestle, so sind auch die anderen Stellplätze voll. Da kommen wir per Zufall an einer Wiese vor Roth vorbei, da stehen bereits 3 Wohnmobile. Wir stellen uns dazu. Außer Aussicht und Ruhe gibt's nichts, aber uns reicht das! Die Wiese ist nicht weit vom Ort entfernt und so ist es nicht weit zum Essen in einem kleinen Restaurant mit Innenhof. Als es zu regnen beginnt, gehen wir wohl oder über nach drinnen. Die Gaststube füllt sich schnell besonders mit den anderen Wohnmobilisten und wir entdecken eine alte Musikbox, die von allen rundum in Betrieb genommen wird. Wir singen alle aus vollem Halse die alten Schlager mit, der Wirt tanzt mit der Bedienung, der Wein schmeckt immer besser... beseelt spazieren gemeinsam wieder heim...

Um halb neun kommt jemand vorbei, der die -sehr fairen!- 5€ Stellplatzgebühr einsammelt, da sind wir bereits startklar für unsere letzte Station: Stellplatz in Mannheim, denn wir haben für heute Abend Karten in der SAP Arena für Udo Lindenberg und wollen unbedingt einen freien Stellplatz ergattern. Um 11 Uhr sind wir da, alles voll.... Ich frage jemand, der gerade ein Stromkabel zusammenrollt, ob sie abreisen. Ja, wir müssten halt noch ihr Frühstück abwarten. Ok, kein Problem. Immer mehr suchende Wohnmobile fahren auf den Platz. Da Udo-Fans zusammenhalten, teilen wir und unseren Stellplatz zu dritt. Jetzt ist erst mal eine Reise in unsere Vergangenheit geplant, eine Radtour nach Ladenburg, wo wir während unseres Studiums gewohnt haben. Ein herrlicher Radweg führt immer am Neckar entlang nach Ladenburg, wo wir in Erinnerungen schwelgen und auf dem historischen Marktplatz eine Kaffeepause einlegen. Zurück mit der kleinen Neckarfähre auf die andere Neckarseite und zurück zum Stellplatz.
Nach einem Grill-Abendessen stiefeln wir los zur SAP Arena, das sind 25 Minuten. Das Konzert ist natürlich der Hammer! An den ganzen Autostaus vorbei geht's wieder zu Fuß zum Wohnmobil zurück.

Mit Udo im Ohr treten wir nach einem gemütlichen Frühstück die Heimreise an.
Fazit: So eine Woche, für die man gar nicht soo weit fahren muss, hat was! Eine ganz andere Welt, toller Tapetenwechsel!
Der Pfälzer Wald mit seinen Burgen und Felsen ist beeindruckend und klasse zum Wandern, egal ob kurz oder lang. Allerdings halt recht dunkel aufgrund von logischerweise sehr viel Wald.
Aber die offenere, sonnigere Pfalz mit den Weinbergen und den vielen netten kleinen Weindörfchen brachte für uns mehr Urlaubsfeeling und ist herrlich, um zu radeln.

In Edenkoben on the Edel-Brauch winery we find a parking space with a view of the vineyards. Unfortunately, the restaurant is on vacation, but we can buy a few bottles of wine as a parking fee.
We start our bike tour directly from here: Maikammer, Roth, Villa Ludwigshöhe, from there with the chairlift up to the Riethburg. At the top you hike to the Ludwigsturm (4 km), a real Rapunzel tower! At Burg Riethburg there is a "slate sack" in proper style: liver dumplings, bratwurst, sauerkraut. We drive back via Hainfeld and Burrweiler and enjoy the very tasty white wine in front of the mobile home. So beautiful! Let's go on like this!!
Our breakfast in the sun comes to an abrupt end because Uwe gets stung on the lip by a wasp, which quickly swells up really badly. Thank God we get from the young woman Edel? or custom? the tip with her family doctor in Edenkoben, to which we cycle in a moment. With two cortisone tablets everything swells up quickly.
We take our time and take a leisurely gondola to the parking space at the Silz bathing lake. This is a large meadow directly behind the dike of the lake and costs 10 € without electricity.
Unfortunately, it's too fresh for swimming, so we cycle comfortably to Dörrenbach, the "Sleeping Beauty" of the Palatinate. Cute little place with a beautiful church with a church garden. Then it's off to the Kieffer butcher's shop in Bad Bergzabern, where we buy liverwurst and delicious Saumagen. The bike path from Bad Berzabern back to Lake Silz is beautiful. In the evenings, however, it gets chilly, so we like to go in after a beer after work.

The further way is wonderful to the Quiechquelle and the paddling lake, where we stop for a bit. Then you can walk from Hinterweidental to the impressive Teufelstisch and Teufelsküche. After this exhausting day we really deserved the tarte flambée and the delicious beer in the super beautiful beer garden of the Brauhaus Ehrstein in Hinterweidental and we enjoy it very much. The way home is quite short, it is very relaxed on the planet path back to the campsite.

There are countless very well signposted hiking trails, we choose the Kauertweg. It's a great hike that takes in beautiful rock formations and beautiful viewpoints. At the end there is a hearty snack at the hut.
In Hauenstein we take a break at the shoe mile, all shoe outlets. OK, we could have saved that....

It's Saturday evening and there's a wine festival in St. Martin, so the other pitches are full too. As we happen to pass a meadow in front of Roth, there are already 3 mobile homes. We stand by it. There's nothing but a view and peace and quiet, but that's enough for us! The meadow is not far from the village and so it is not far to eat in a small courtyard restaurant. When it starts raining, we head inside. The dining room fills up quickly, especially with the other campers and we discover an old music box that everyone puts into operation. We all sing along to the old hits at the top of our lungs, the landlord dances with the waitress, the wine tastes better and better... walking home together inspired...

We'll be there at 11, all full... I ask someone who's just rolling up a power cord if they're leaving. Yes, we would just have to wait for your breakfast. OK no problem. More and more mobile homes are driving onto the site. Since Udo fans stick together, the three of us share our pitch. Now we are planning a trip into our past, a bike ride to Ladenburg, where we lived during our studies. A wonderful cycle path always leads along the Neckar to Ladenburg, where we reminisce and take a coffee break on the historic market square. Back with the small Neckar ferry to the other side of the Neckar and back to the parking space.
After a BBQ dinner, we're off to the SAP Arena, that's 25 minutes. The concert is of course awesome! Passing all the traffic jams, we walk back to the mobile home.

Conclusion: Such a week, for which you don't have to drive that far, has something! A whole different world, great change of scenery!
The Palatinate Forest with its castles and rocks is impressive and great for hiking, whether short or long. However, quite dark due to logically a lot of forest.
But the more open, sunnier Palatinate with the vineyards and the many nice little wine villages gave us more of a holiday feeling and is great for cycling.
With Udo in our ears, we start our journey home after a leisurely breakfast.
Conclusion: Such a week, for which you don't have to drive that far, has something! A whole different world, great change of scenery!
