Belgium 2023

We had planned a tour of Belgium for a long time. To get straight to the point - we absolutely loved the great cities, especially Ghent. On the coast we let some nostalgia play, but it was worth it. We can only warmly recommend this approximately one-week tour.

Travelogue

Essen
Bredeney , Essen, Deutschland

Stellplatz Maastricht
Bosscherweg 35
We started our Belgium tour in the Netherlands. We also found this pitch in Maastricht at Top Platz. 18€/N without electricity is a reasonable price. There is even free WiFi for this. The sanitary facilities are very clean. There is an extra charge for showers and electricity. The adjacent country road can be heard well.

It takes 10 minutes by bike to get to the center. We checked out the Museum of Illusion and downtown. The fries at Reitz (at the town hall) had to be of course. A visit to Maastricht is definitely worthwhile, if only for the great shops and impressive sculptures.

Day 1
Lüttich, Belgien
Only as a waypoint

Parkplatz Waterloo Memorial
Chau. de Charleroi 611, 1410 Lasne, Belgien
You can park directly on the access road to the Löwenberg on the side of the road. Entrance to the museum costs 19€/p.
We were just strolling along the battlefields, thinking of the many thousands of senseless deaths. Even if this battle was the basis of our European state division, the suffering and death associated with it is depressing - especially against the background of the current Ukraine war.

Atomium, Place de l'Atomium, Brüssel, Belgien
Pl. de l'Atomium 1, 1020 Bruxelles, Belgien
We also parked here on the road to the Atomium for €2.35. One hour was enough, since we only visited all the buildings from the outside.
From here we drove about 30 minutes across town to our parking space at the youth hostel.

Stellplatz Brüssel an der Jugendherberge
Rue de l'Éléphant 1, 1080 Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Belgien
It's a good half hour's walk into town from here.
The parking space is in the yard of the youth hostel and at €35 it's not exactly cheap. But you have electricity, free WiFi and supply and disposal. Toilet and shower is in the hostel.

Day 2
Camping Blaarmeersen, Gent
Campinglaan, 9000 Gent, Belgien

Great campsite for 30€ including dog, WiFi and supplies and disposal. From here you can get to Ghent in just under 15 minutes by bike.

Ghent is a very young, historic city worth seeing. I have rarely seen a more interesting city. Simply great!!!
Because we liked it here so much, we stayed for 2 days.

Day 3
Day 4
Parkmöglichkeit Brügge nahe zur Innenstadt
Professor Dokter J. Sebrechtsstraat 2, 8000 Brugge, Belgien
This street parking is a great place to start a sightseeing tour of Bruges. We downloaded another tour and followed the attractions of Bruges for about 2 hours.
From here we continued towards de Panne.

Day 5
De Panne, Belgien
De Panne , Belgien
The feeling from previous vacations here just didn't want to come up. The buildings were too daunting.
We drove further along the coast to the west end. Then we stayed the night there.

Stellplatz Westende
Strandjuttersdreef 2, 8434 Middelkerke, Belgien
The pitch in Westende is very quiet and costs €15/N with electricity, but no sanitary facilities. It takes about 15 minutes to get to the beach.

Day 6

Stellplatz Knokke
Natiënlaan 70-72, 8300 Knokke-Heist, Belgien
This parking space is located near the center. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the beach, always along the shopping street.
On the way back we were opposite the train station in a trendy pub with traditional Belgian beers - our dog found the way back to the camper without any problems. 😂

Day 7
Cadzand, Niederlande
4506 Cadzand, Niederlande
Here too, nostalgia was the driving force to visit this place again.

In the 1970s we spent a few holidays here and rocked out at the Big L to songs by Santana, Stones, CCR, etc.

Today there is a shopping mall and lots of new buildings here😞. But what can you do - time hasn't stood still for me either.😩

Strandcamping Groede
Zeeweg 1, 4503 PA, Groede, Niederlande
The CP only opens in March. Until then, you can park for free on a well-prepared parking space in front of the campsite. Great!

Day 8
Antwerpen, Belgien
We parked on the opposite side of the Scheldt, roughly where the pedestrian tunnel begins. There were enough places available. From there you can also take the ferry for free and arrive directly at the castle.
So far we had avoided visiting Antwerp, as the impression one gets from the city motorway does not exactly tempt us to do so. But this is just a misleading contrast program. Like Bruges or Ghent, the city center is absolutely worth seeing. If you don't want to take a guided tour, it's worth downloading an electronic city tour from the Internet. We enjoyed the beautiful city center for about 2 hours.
After a last fries, we started the 2-hour walk home from here.

LG Axel
